“In previous academic areas challenges have proved trivial and in bluntness, googleable. I enjoyed working in new fields that I did not understand while creating new solutions for unique problems. I also enjoyed having a tangible project complete to demonstrate.”
-ODCSSS 2006 Student
ODCSSS is 10 week undergraduate summer research internship program between University College Dublin (UCD) and Dublin City University (DCU) Ireland. Applications will open in early March and close on April 9th. It starts on June 1st 2010. This program offers a distributed and interdisciplinary research environment at the forefront of ICT research.
Each ODCSSS student is engaged in a research project with a faculty member and mentor which provides them an opportunity to experience research. The program offers paid internship awards and opens for applications in early March. The selection of interns is highly competitive but we encourage anyone interested in research who is eligible to apply. Our Introduction page and Objectives pages have more details on the overall program. Our News page has extensive updates of the ongoing ODCSSS activities each year and our Students page has details of our over 60 past students.
The funding for ODCSSS comes from an Undergraduate Research Experience and Knowledge grant (UREKA) from the Science Foundation Ireland. The program has had over 60 students involved since 2006 when it started. The ODCSSS alumni have gone on to undertake postgraduate study, internships with IBM and CISCO and into positions of employment with Oracle, IBM, Amazon and Facebook.
The name ODCSSS or (Odysseus) stands for the Online Dublin Computer Science Summer School. You can find more details about ODCSSS, our alumni, past projects, current projects, news and applications on this website via the links above and to the left.
