Welcome To Odysseus 2007
Odysseus (or ODCSSS) is the Online Dublin Computer Science Summer School in Ireland. It is a collaborative summer school started by the School of Computer Science & Informatics at UCD and the School of Computing at DCU and is supported by the AIC and SFI .
This part of the site is created by us, the students of Odysseus. We hope you find this site helpful since the project descriptions are written by students for students. You will also find our personal opinions on the ODCSSS project overall.
What is Odysseus?
Odysseus is a 12 week long internship/project that takes place in Dublin, Ireland. It is spread across two of the largest universities in the country, UCD and DCU.
Primarily Odysseus is a window into the world of research. The aim is to give you a unique insight into how a research environment works, and if it might be something that you would consider after graduating. Not only this but with the valuable experience gained from an internship such as Odysseus is considered of very high value by potential employers.
The projects are individual, although you do work in close collaboration with your supervisors and mentors. All the individual porjects are connected by a theme which is changed every year. This year the theme was "Technologies for Aiding Human Memory".
Its not all work, work, work, though. There are regular social events for all the particapating students and supervisors. Whether it is a collaborative research day or a trip to the cinema, everybody enjoys themselves.
And yes... you do get paid!
Who applies for Odysseus?
Hundreds of students from around the world apply to Odysseus every year. These are undergraduate students studying mostly Computer Science and Engineering subjects. This year we have students of varying ages from 13 different countries.
